What is Stress?
Depression is very common condition in today’s times. Although mostly people feel low and fed up occasionally, but depression is much more than that. Depression can impact a person for for weeks, or even months at a time.
Living with depression can be difficult, not only for the person, but more for people around. People in depression fear owning it, because they don’t want to be rejected or ridiculed.
If one has following feelings, there is a need for a correct diagnosis : (At least five of the following depression symptoms )
- Feelings of worthlessness
- Life is not worth living
- Continuous anxiety, crying and worry
- Difficulty in concentration
- Not able to take decisions
- Irritability and intolerance
- Low self-esteem
- Excess guilt
- Zero motivation or interest
When to seek counselling for depression?
If you are experiencing symptoms of depression for most of the time in the day, for more than two weeks, one should seek counselling. If there are thoughts of suicide and self-harm then it becomes even bigger a warning signal that you need help immediately.
Although the one who is in depression finds treatment an impossible task, but those who get the needed help sooner come out of it quickly. Living with depression is indeed dangerous if one doesn’t take the needed treatment on time.
How does counselling helpful for depression
People who suffer from depression are trapped in self-defeating thoughts and counselling aims to help them identify these negative thoughts and address them. Counselling helps in breaking negative thought patterns. The person finds out how these thoughts of the unconscious affect their behaviour.
Alongside counselling, medication may also be needed to help the client. The psychiatrist in our team as per the requirement uses to ease the depression symptoms like poor sleep, low mood, and poor concentration.
